HIT THE ROAD AUSTRALIAN SQUARE DANCERS June 2015

In the past I have tended to only go to the National without seeing much of Australia. This year Tracie and I decided to drive across to it instead of flying. Advantages are that we are using own car to drive around with and we are more able to see more of Australia than our main destination. Disadvantages are that more time is needed for trip, causing extra wear and tear on our car; we have extra expense for overnight accommodation on the way. Cost wise it is hard to say if it was worth it. Was the saving on air fares and not needing a hire car outweighed by the extra accommodation cost of the places we had to stay in along the way?  I don't really know but I think it is about the same the same.

But as we had our own car – and allowed enough time to travel – we were able to make a 3 day detour to Broken Hill to do the “tourism thing” instead of just going to a convention. I reckon that looking through the “Pro Hart” gallery and the “Jack Absalom” gallery, (and actually meeting Jack), made it all worthwhile. We also took some time to travel further south to Naracoorte and see a few more sights. I’m glad I took the time to do the journey this time.

I reckon that we should all think about forgetting the plane, reclaim the roads and see more of Australia to enjoy the journey as well the destination.
