These are articles related to Square Dancing that I have written. I recently re-found the original WORD files documents for the olders ones. Most of the newer ones have been copied from my archive of "Australian Callers Federation" newsletter "Callerlink", (which I was editor of for several years). The "date" information is based upon the "last save date" of the original documents. Some of the dates might not be correct, but should be close.
CLUB SOUL (CL219 2015-03)
Every club has a soul. By that statement I mean that every club has a spiritual feeling that animates from the total life force and atmosphere of your club. Club soul is important as it feeds into the well-being of square dancing in your area.
It is always a good idea to check the health of your club’s soul by looking at aspects such as:
Does it have a good welcoming atmosphere?
Are visiting dancers welcomed for the joy they add to the club atmosphere, or are they merely helping boost the club finances?
Are prodigal dancers welcomed back after holidays?
Do dancers feel like they can go on holidays without feeling guilty?
What is the relationship between caller and dancers?
Is the club oxymoronic, does it wish to have new dancers, yet current dancers only want all dancing time for experienced members only?
Square dancing is all about people, give your people space and understanding and they will give your club a soul that will keep it alive through good times and bad.
