WHAT IS YOUR CLUB'S STREET ADDRESS? (Taken from Callerlink 201 September 2010)
Jeff Garbutt

The latest "must have" in almost everybody's vehicle these days is a dashboard mounted street navigation GPS.

You see them almost everywhere you go. The newer models feature voice guidance navigation and are

reasonably priced. So much so that it is not worthwhile updating the maps with changing road conditions,

t is almost cheaper to buy a new one every couple of years. They are especially useful when holidaying in an

unfamiliar area. So it is no surprise to find many square dancers are already using them when they travel.

Older GPS units required you to work out location in either latitude/longitude or eastings/northings. Street navigation GPS units use location information that humans use such as actual street address.

One common feature is that they will locate a street address for you very accurately if given a street number, Street name and Suburb. However they can't work so well if given an imprecise address with a local name. For example, my club used to listed as being at Uniting Church Hall in Mangles Street Bunbury - which doesn't mean very much on a GPS. But if you enter 119 Mangles Street, Bunbury a modern GPS will find it for you without any problems.

This advice is also true for someone who is looking for your club using "Google Maps", http://maps.google.com.au/maps.

I recommend that everyone find out the full street address of their club venue including street number and include it in any listings for your club. It will make it much easier for visiting dancers to find your club and join in with your dance. I reckon anything that makes it easier for visiting dancers to come to your club dance has to be good.
