EXTERNAL SOUND CARDS (Taken from Callerlink 191 December 2008)

Unfortunately many computers are not designed for recording good quality music from turntables, cassettes or even minidisk decks. Even computers with good quality sound cards still use a 3.5 mm stereo socket for music input. But one doesn't really need to spend big money to turn computers into good quality sound devices. For about $100 or less there are a range of external sound cards on the market that plug into the computer USB port. They make it possible even for cheap and nasty computers to be used for good quality music recording to computer. These are also dual purpose units for both recording and playback of music. Two such devices are the Edirol UA-1X and the Beringer UCA202..
