'TWAS THE DANCE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Excerp from Callerlink Issue 179 (Editors Christmas message for December 2007)
By: Jeff Garbutt, Western Australia

T'was the dance night before Christmas and in the local hall
The dancers were having lots of fun on the floor
They were twirling and moving in lots of strange directions
And the music with a sweet beat that that didn't need any correction
There was a bloke with a mike making sounds in a strange language
What the heck is he doing? He's must have lots of courage!
There were words like lines, waves, trades and circulates
It looked a little confusing, but it was also fun now mate
The dancers were moving in neat executed geometric patterns
They seemed to be synchronised to the sound as it happened
Their movement was so varied and intricate, not at all random
They must all be Einstiens to reach such planned perfection
Or was it the bloke with the mike with his language so strange?
That caused all this pandemonium around this range?
They were laughing and happy with smiles going from ear to ear
Maybe there's a strange virus going round this year
Then out from the sky came such an unexpected sight
It took all by surprise and caused a bit of a fright
A jolly old man with a sleigh and reindeer
Was curious about the sound and to the hall he did steer
"Why it's Santa" someone shouted, "He's coming our way"
"What a wonderful surprise tonight to remember this day"
Needless to say we were all kind of shocked at this development
We struggled to find words for what it all meant
Old Santa came in with a cheerful grin shouting "ho ho ho"
"I'm here to join in, now let's start the show"
So he joined us that night and I've just gotta say
That jolly old Santa he is really okay
We danced though the night with Santa you know
Until at last it was time for him to go
He bid his farewell when the Christmas cake we did light
And announced "sorry to leave, but I've got a job on tonight"
Out through the door he hastened away
Well of course we knew he couldn't stay
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
We heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."
